The Vishwa Hindu Parishad was founded to bring all Hindus living in Bharat and across the world together on one platform—transcending differences of caste, creed, sect, region, language, and modes of worship to realise civilisational solidarity, moral renaissance, and the universal wellbeing of mankind.

Definition of a Hindu

This has been presented thus in the first paragraph of the Parishad's Constitution:

भारतीयर्षि सम्प्रोक्तान् इहामृतार्थ साधकान् । योऽङ्गीकरोति सश्रद्धं तत्सिद्धान्तान् सनातनान् ॥

महात्मभिर्दिव्य शीलैः काले काले प्रवर्तितान् । साम्प्रदायानाद्रियते यः सर्वान् पारमार्थिकान् ॥

यत्रकुत्रापि जातोऽसोवास्तु यः कोऽपि जन्मना । सच्छीलौदार चरितः सोऽत्र हिन्दूरिति स्मृतः ॥

Dharma (righteous conduct), Artha (material acquisition), Kama (satisfying the physical needs) and Moksha (Salvation);

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad is formed to bring all the Hindus living in Bharat and various countries of the world together on one platform irrespective of their differences like castes / creeds / sects / modes of worship with a view to realise the following aims and objects:

To make all Hindus living in Bharat and foreign countries to stand up as one, organised and wholesome society by eliminating the differences crept in, on account of language, region, creed, caste, and class; by giving them an experience of unity and integrity; and by inculcating among them a spirit of glory, firm faith and devotion towards the Dharma and culture.

Foundational Convictions

दृढ़ विश्वास एवं अटल संकल्प

Right from its inception, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad has undertaken various types of programmes, which have helped us not only to bring about harmony amid the Hindu society; but also to dispel all types of evil customs, vices and bad practices; to organise the youths and awaken the women power; to enhance the level of interest in the Dharma Anushthanas. Besides, the converted brethren should have an ardent desire to return to the Dharma of their ancestors; the aptitude for protection, preservation and rearing of cows is awakened. Special respectful interest is created for Sanskrit language and its literature.

For raising the above tasks on to the pedestal of success, the Parishad right from the beginning had nourished the following convictions:

Principle 01Absolute Equality

“No body is untouchable in Hindu society.”

नास्ति अस्पृश्यो जनः कश्चित् — सर्वे भ्रातरः मानवाः

A foundational principle affirmed by revered Dharmacharyas and saints from all sampradayas at Prayagraj in 1966. Untouchability has zero sanction in Hindu scriptures and is an abhorrent social distortion that must be eradicated unconditionally from thought and practice.

Principle 02Pluralistic Oneness

“In spite of being believers in different modes of worship, all Hindus are a part and parcel of this mammoth harmonious society.”

एकं सद् विप्रा बहुधा वदन्ति

Respecting diversity of upasana (worship)—whether Shaiva, Vaishnava, Shakta, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Vedic, or indigenous folk traditions. All streams form integral branches of one vast, harmonious civilisational tree.

Principle 03Temple-Led Advancement

“In the changed circumstances, the Mutts, Mandirs and religious places should be seen not merely as the centers of devotion, worship and adoration, but also as the nodal points of service and social advancement; and as the centers of Hindu consolidation and Sanskars (refining processes).”

Places of worship must serve as dynamic community epicenters providing healthcare, schooling, skill training, moral refinement, and social welfare, driving holistic progress in every locality.

Principle 04Dignity for All

“We must ensure a place of honour for all our brethren of the neglected sections of our society through our liberal and affable behaviour.”

True social harmony cannot be achieved through laws alone; it demands genuine brotherly love, open-hearted mutual respect, social intimacy, and affable conduct toward every section of society.

Principle 05Universal Solidarity

“The Hindu society spread all over the world should express their solidarity with our exploited brothers in those areas of Bharat, where the Hindus have already become or likely to become a minority and thus give boost to their morale.”

Wherever Hindu families face persecution, demographic marginalisation, or socio-political vulnerability, the global fraternity must stand resolutely with them in moral, legal, and humanitarian solidarity.
